YSL UV SHIELD HIGH PROTECTION UV SKINCARE

Hello every one!

Today I’m gonna share with you a newly launched product from YSL, it’s the UV Shield High Protection UV Skincare. I believe this product was launched on March 2013. This product is readily available in YSL boutique in ION Orchard and Tangs Beauty Hall Singapore.

With a scorching hot sun in this Sunny Singapore, UV protection is a need for my everyday use. I have tried several brands UV protection but when it’s YSL who comes out with this product, it gets me so excited! To know more about this product, keep on reading! ;)

What makes this product so special? According to YSL , here are the secrets of triple shields:

  • AN ANTI-POLLUTION BARRIER: enriched with Shea butter extract with detoxi- fying properties to protect skin against everyday urban aggressions by capturing floating metal particles.
  • OPTIMAL SPF50 pA++++ UV PROTECTION: a filtration system containing a blend of patented filters for high protection against UVB rays and boosted UVA protection (pA++++) to help effectively combat premature skin-aging and the formation of sun-induced brown spots.
  • ANTI FREE RADICAL PROTECTION: antioxidant vitamin E combined with tyrosi- nase-inhibiting peony extract protects the skin against free radicals generated by external aggressions. 

The Packaging:

YSL UV Shield has a very simple packaging. There’s nothing fancy or luxurious. The tube is a squeezable with a handy size. You don’t need to worry that you’ll squeeze too much product as the end of the tube is really small so it’s unlikely that you’ll squeeze too much products.

The Texture & Smell:

YSL UV Shield looks white when squeezed out from the tube. However after spreading it evenly onto your face, it would look very natural. There’s no white sheen like the traditional UV protection has. The texture of this product feels light and non sticky at all. I personally love the smell of this products a lot :) I mist admit that it smells pretty strong but the scents is very nice. I am not really good at describing scents, but it has a refreshing flowery smell which makes me feel refreshed everytime I apply my makeup every morning before work.

YSL UV shield is recommended to be used before your foundation or bb cream. I use this UV shield frequently especially if my foundation only gives me less than SPF 30++ protection. The sun in Singapore is very strong so I must make sure that my skin is well protected. YSL UV shield does not affect the lasting power of my foundation, so you don’t need to worry that your skin will get oily or your foundation will fades after using this as a base make up.

Final Thought:

Overall YSL Top Secret UV Shield provides a very nice texture and smell. It’s a nice UV protection to be worn as a base under your foundation to give you that extra protection you need especially when the sun is strong.

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Swatches & Review

Lipstick launches always excites me especially when it’s shiny and last long on my lips. YSL is famous with many of their lip products for its wide ranges of color, creamy texture and the beautiful packaging. I received this beautifully packed lipsticks. There are 5 beautiful colors here, the reds and the plums. Keep reading to know more about what I think of YSL Volupte Shine!

The packaging:

YSL Rouge Volupte shine has the same packaging as the YSL Rouge Volupte. It’s one of the prettiest lipstick design I have ever owned. The YSL logo in the middle is just gorgeous and it looks timeless. The gold color packaging is very prone to finger print, but nonetheless the packaging is just beautiful!

YSL Volupte shine glides beautifully on my lips. The application is easy, it does not make any mess on my lips. The pigmentation is lovely, the color shows up beautifully on my lip in just one swipe. In two swipes, the color looks perfect. The finished looks shiny on the lips but it does not look sheer at all. It’s a nice shiny and pigmented color. Whatever color you look in the tube, it would look like that on your lips.

Lasting Power:

The lasting power is amazing. It stays on my lip for 6 hours; the shine faded but not the color. For ladies who don’t want the hassle of reapplying lip color, YSL Rouge Volupte Shine provides what you need. However I found a little downside of YSL Rouge Volupte Shine. Although it’s pigmented and lasts for long, it left a stain on my lips for pretty long. I have tried to remove the lipstick with my lip make up remover but the stain is still there for few hours.

Final Thought:

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine provides a great pigmentation and shine throughout the whole day. The color range is very wide too (You can see the lists of the color here) For ladies who like shiny lips, I highly recommend this range! :)

Now onto my own pictures and review!

I received these 7 colors recently during the preview media launch. I have read few beauty blogs that mentioned Shine Caresse is very similar to YSL Glossy Stains. I am so excited to try whether this is the real dupe of YSL Glossy Stains :) Please keep reading if you want to know.

There will be 8 shades of L’Oreal Shine Caresse in Singapore. I only have 7 colors with me, I missed 606 Eve. The color range of Shine Caresse ranges from nudes, soft pinks, coral and reds. The packaging is in a gold color which looks very sleek and nice.

Texture & Smell:

L’Oreal Caresse has a glossy finish. The pigmentation of Shine Caresse is not as pigmented as what I would have expected. At the swatches above, I applied two layers. As you can see, even with two layers, some of the colors are still sheer. What I love about Shine Caresse is that these products does not leave a sticky feeling, It has a jelly like finish. Moreover the smell of Shine Caresse is not strong, not something that would annoys me.

Comparison with YSL Glossy Stain:

In terms of texture, I can feel that there’s a slight difference between them. YSL Glossy Stains sinks in better than Shine Caresse. As you can see in the swatch above, YSL Glossy Stain is more pigmented than L’Oreal Shine Caresse. I find that Shine Caresse is more moisturizing and it doesn’t peel off my lip. YSL Glossy stain has better pigmentation but the texture makes my lips peel. Another thing that differentiates these two is the scent. Shine Caresse has a softer scent which is a WIN thing for me. YSL Glossy Stain scent is way too strong for me which I dislike.

Looking at the brush shape, L’Oreal Shine Caresse has a longer and rounder shape of brush, whereas YSL Glossy Stain has a more pointed shape. I personally prefer YSL’s more pointed shape brush. It helps me to apply the color more neatly and more evenly. However, since L’Oreal Shine Caresse  has lesser pigmentation, I don’t have issues the brush shape.

Final Thought:

Overall I think L’Oreal Shine Caresse is really worth checking. I personally love the jelly like texture, the shine, the finish and the non strong smell. The color range is also not bad, I can find soft shades and bold shades. It’s weird to say this because I usually love sheer and nude colors but Shine Caresse bold colors shouts to me louder, they look much better than the sheerer one. My favorite shade from this collection is 603 Milady and 801 Princess. They show up very well on me :)

Tom Ford Blush in Flush

I am so excited that Tom Ford is opening its counter in Tangs Orchard!

I am such a blush addicts that everytime I heard people are raving about a brand, I need to try the blush. I have read many positive review about the quality of this blush. I bought Tom Ford blush in Flush from Tangs Orchard when they are having 12% rebate for the cardmembers. This blush is retailing for SGD 85. It’s a very expensive blush for me and I am expecting a very high quality product for the price I have paid.

Firstly I’d like to talk about the packaging. It’s made of gold metal casing that feels quite heavy. There’s a velvet pouch given for every blush. There’s a “Tom Ford” logo embossed at the front of the blush. Call me superficial but this kind of luxurious packaging always call my name and I always fall into temptation on getting this blush. There is no small brush or applicator included in this blush.

Flush is a peachy coral blush with fine shimmers. The texture is very soft, pigmented and it blends beautifully on my skin. The moment I touched this on the counter, I can feel that the formula is awesome. It is so pigmented that you only need to dab your brush once (or twice) lightly and gently pat it on your face. You can always build up the color if you think the color does not pop enough.

In the swatch below, you can see how pigmented the blush is. On the left is one swipe of the blush, and on the right side is one swipe of the blush and blended.


I have swatched some blushes that might look similar.

I would say that there’s no exact dupe to Tom Ford Flush. The closest would be Nars Deep Throat, but Nars seems to be sheerer than Tom Ford flush. I have reviewed all the blushes swatched above except Nars Deep Throat. You can find the review for the blushes here:

Final Thought:

Tom Ford blush delivers what I have expected from a high end blush. The texture are not disappointing; blends very nice, the pigmentation is superb and the packaging looks luxurious. The only downside I see is the price. Tom Ford products are very expensive but that might be the reason why people are lemming about it too ;)
