My First Empties Post

Hello all,

This post is my first post on my emptied products. I’ve been reading many beauty blogs who have featured their emptied products and I love reading their short review of each products. So after a while, I decided to write a short review on each products I have finished. I’ll try to do this post once in one or two months so that I’ll have enough number of products to talk about :)

1. The Body Shop Body Butter Duo Macadamia

If you love macadamia, this is for you! It smells amazing; it makes me feel like drinking a cup of hazelnut latte :) What I love about this body buter duo is that it contains two texture of products. It has body lotion and body butter inside this tube. Usually I’d apply the body lotion in the morning and the body butter in the evening. Both lotion and the body butter are very moisturizing. The only downside of this body butter is that it can feel very sticky. Whenever I use this body butter, I always make sure that I’ll be sleeping in my long pyjamas because I don’t want my bedsheet to smell macadamia :p.

Will I repurchase this again: Yes but I’d try a different scent.

2. Bio Oi

I have reviewed this product earlier. You can read it here.

Will I repurchase this again: Maybe.

3. Ma Chérie Hair Oil

I am currently in love with oils! I love face oils, hair oils, body oils, you name it :D Ma Chérie is a product launched in Japan and it’s part of Shiseido group. I love the smell of Ma Chérie products; it has fruity scent and it makes me feel girly. This hair oil moisturizes my hair well and it doesn’t make my hair feel sticky. I also love the look of its super cute packaging. It’s retailing at about $20 per bottle in Singapore.

Will I repurchase this again: Maybe

4. Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater Hand Therapy

I know I have not reviewed anything from Crabtree & Evelyn but I am actually loving this brand to the max! I just love the design of Crabtree & Evelyn brand; it looks classy and it reminds me of the classic English look. Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater Hand Therapy (100ml) is very convenient to be put on my daily make up bag. The rose scent is nice and it’s not over pouring. It’s also non sticky so it’s good to be used anytime of the day.

Will I repurchase this again: Definitely

5. NARS Light Reflecting Powder

I have reviewed this product before, you can read it here. This is by far my favorite finishing/touch up powder. It has oil control ability; my face doesn’t feel oily even after 10 hours without touch up. It makes my skin looks glowy but doesn’t leave white cast when photographed. I finished this powder after 3 months of usage.

Will I repurchase this again: Definitely

I hope this post give you some idea of the products I have finished using. Have you tried any of the products I mentioned here?

Thank you for reading.

Suqqu Cheek Brush and Comparison

Hello!

Today I’ll be featuring a product that I recently acquired. I have been wanting to buy this brush for the longest time but I had no chance of getting it as Suqqu is only available in Japan, UK and Thailand. The price was also the other factor why I keep on refusing to get this brush. This brush is the biggest splurge I have made on make up items. I felt so guilty yet happy at the same time :p. The lovely Ruby from Miaka-My Life helped me to get this brush while she was having a holiday few weeks back. Thank you very much for your help dear! :)

IMG_5130

I believe the majority of you need no introduction of Suqqu brushes. It is often said that Suqqu brush has the softest hair ever. I have to agree on that. This Suqqu cheek brush feels very soft – and it’s the softest brush that I have ever owned. It’s much softer than my beloved Tom Ford Cheek Brush. Suqqu brushes are made of grey squirrel hair which is rarely found in many other brands. I have never found any western brand selling brushes made of squirrel hair, and I’ve only known several Japanese brands  selling brushes made of squirrel hair. Suqqu is one of those rare brands selling brushes made of squirrel hair.

IMG_5131

Suqqu cheek brush comes in a very simple design. It’s justa simple black handled brush. Nothing impressive but I have no complain on this. The brush is very lightweight too. The length handle of the brush is designed just nice, it’s not too long and not too short to help application process become easier.

As much as I’d love to say that this brush is perfect, I must say that I’m a bit surprised that this brush isn’t as dense as what I would have expect it to be. The hair don’t feel as dense as my other cheek brushes. I personally love brushes that are dense, so this density issue actually annoys me a bit.

Suqqu cheek brush doesn’t pick too much product. So this brush is a perfect choice for me to create a subtle cheek look. But in times when I prefer to have a dramatic face look, I can always swirl the brush more roughly and build the color.

Comparison with other cheek brushes:

In this picture, I’m doing a comparison with NARS Yachiyo Kabuki Brush, Tom Ford Cheek Brush, Bobbi Brown Blush Brush and IZU Blush Brush. As you can see, Suqqu brush is the tiniest among all cheek brushes in this picture. It has the simplest design among all the brushes here too.

IMG_5135

L-R: IZU Blush brush – Bobbi Brown Blush Brush – Suqqu Cheek Brush – Tom Ford Cheek Brush – Nars Yachiyo Kabuki Brush

If I have to put these brushes in terms of density, I would put it this way (no 1 being densest)

1. Tom Ford Cheek Brush

2. Bobbi Brown Blush Brush

3. IZU Blush brush

4. Nars Yachiyo Kabuki Brush

5.  Suqqu Cheek Brush

So in terms of density, Suqqu is not dense at all when compared to my other blush brushes. I prefer my brush to be dense, so actually Suqqu does not live up to my expectation on this.

Suqqu brush is the softest brush that I have ever owned or touched. So this time I’m going to list the brushes in order of the softness:

1. Suqqu Cheek Brush

2.  Tom Ford Blush Brush

3. IZU Blush brush

4. Nars Yachiyo Kabuki Brush

5. Bobbi Brown Blush Brush

Honestly I have never heard anyone saying they have found something softer than Suqqu brush. Tom Ford brush hair feels very soft but when you compare it side by side with Suqqu brush, you’ll certainly feel the difference.

Final Thought:

Well now that I have to sums everything together, I think I shall start by saying that I understand what many people is raving about this brush. It’s the softness of this brush! It’s as soft as cloud (if I could ever touch it!! :p). But is this brush worth every cent? I’d say not really. I hope that it would be more dense so that it’ll help to pick more product. However if you prefer your brush not to be too dense, then this brush might be your choice. And for a brush with that price tag, I really hope that the handle would be heavier or looking more luxurious.

I am certainly happy that finally I get to own this brush. I know this brush ain’t perfect for me but I am satisfied. I know what everyone is talking about and I won’t feel curious anymore :) The softest brush ever!

Has any of you tried this brush before? What’s your thought? Share with me what’s your fave blush brush :)

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light

Lately there has been a lot of brands releasing their version of glowing powder. Hourglass came out with six shades of Ambient Lighting Powder ; Ethereal Light, Diffused Light, Dim Light, Mood Light, Luminous Light, Radiant Light. There have been a lot of beauty bloggers raving on this product and fell in love with it.

I made my way to True Colors – Ngee Ann City and take a peek if they still have stock for this product. When I got there, they only have a piece left which is Ethereal Light. I quickly swatch it on my arm and see if the shade would match my skin tone. Then I impulsively decide to get this. So is this powder meet my expectation? Keep reading :)

The Packaging:

Firstly, I’d like to let you all know that Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is packaged differently in Singapore. According to the SA in True Colors Ngee Ann City, the first shipment batch of Ambient Lighting Powder that comes to Singapore is packed in this way. And for the next batch, the packaging would be the same as what is released in USA. I am not sure on this and if any of you could give me some information, please let me know :)

I find that the packaging of my Hourglass powder is rather sad. The packaging is too plain; it’s only packed in plastic packaging with an hourglass logo printed on it. There’s no luxe feeling and honestly it looks too dull to me. I hope I’d see the original packaging design reaching Singapore soon.

The Texture & Shade:

Hourglass Ambient lighting powder has a very smooth feeling. It is soft, smooth and easy to wear. I usually use this powder with my powder brush. Ethereal light looks more of a finishing powder to me. It would be more suitable for ladies with fair skin. On my skin it looks fine, it matches with my skintone.

I have been trying this product for about two weeks. Generally, I think this powder works fine but nothing really amazes me. It stays nicely the whole day, I don’t see any fading even after 9 hours. However I feel that this powder lacks the ability of oil control. I can feel that my T-zone starts to be oily after 6 hours. I don’t experience any white cast when photographed. It looks fine to me.

Swatches & Comparison:

I did some swatch comparison between Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder and Nars Light Reflecting Powder . Initially, I thought both products will perform equally or similarly. But after swatching these two and testing these out, I found that these two is different.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light works as a whitening powder to me. It does its job to whiten my face but not brightening. The finish of this powder looks matte and one thing that let me down is it doesn’t help to control my oily T-zone area. On the other hand, NARS doesn’t whiten my face but it actually brighten my face. It makes my face looks more glowy without making it look oily. It also has oil control ability; I don’t feel my face getting oily even after 9 hours.

Final Thought:

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light works fine for ladies with normal to dry skin. Ladies who are looking for a whitening powder, this one might works. But for me, I prefer my NARS Light Reflecting Powder as it gives my face glow rather than whitens it.

I hope that this review would be helpful :)

NARS – The Happening Eye and Cheek Palette

Hello everyone!

I have NARS The Happening palette to show you. This palette consists of 4 eyeshadows, one blush and one bronzer. This definitely prefect for travel as everything needed are in one compact.

I’m just so happy when NARS created this palette, Orgasm has been the famous blush from NARS and so does Laguna bronzer. On top of that Instyle Magazine named them as Best beauty buy for Orgasm Blush and Laguna Bronzer. Then NARS Kuala lumpur duo eyeshaow has been in my mind for I don’t know how long.

nars2

4 shades of eyeshadows are:

  • Night Star: Sheer peach with gold pearl
  • GSTAAD: Shimmering taupe
  • Kuala Lumpur: Boysenberry infused with gold
  • Coconut Grove: Deep taupe brown infused with gold

Orgasm Blush

Laguna Bronzing Powver

Above picture didn’t capture the shimmer in the eyeshadow but Night Star and Kuala Lumpur are very shimmery.  It does reflected in below swatches (I hope).  The first swatches taken under natural lights while the second one under the shade but both without primer.

I found the Coconut Grove eyeshadow (bottom right)  are very pigmented not in a good way unfortunately and as I expected I love the Kuala Lumpur shade :)

I don’t think this palette is a must if you have some of the products already. But since I don’t have any of those before, I didn’t regret owning this palette.

Last but not least, the size comparison with the normal products.

NARS Light Reflecting Powder Review & Comparison with MAC Prep+Prime Transparent Finishing Powder

Hello all,

Recently NARS has just launched Light Reflecting Powder in Singapore. Many of my instagram friends go crazy over this powder and it really tempted me to grab this product. NARS Light Reflecting Powder is retailing at S$50 in Singapore and available at Tangs Beauty Hall Orchard.

Few months ago, I also bought MAC Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Powder. Both of them looks similar in the pan; pressed and has a white color. Both also looks translucent when swatched. I will do a comparison of both products in this post. Please keep reading :)

The Packaging:

NARS Light Reflecting Powder comes with a fabric pouch with NARS logo in it. It also comes with a face sponge to apply the powder. The packaging of the powder looks like NARS bronzer, it has the same size and the casing has rubbery feeling.

Comparison with MAC:

NARS Light Reflecting Powder has 7g/0.24oz of product and MAC Transparent Finishing Powder has 6.3g/0.22oz of product. NARS Reflecting Powder retails at S$50 and MAC retails at S$30-40 (can’t remember the exact price). Nars provided a pouch with a sponge while MAC does not provide anything in the box.

The Texture:

NARS Light Reflecting Powder & MAC Transparent Finishing Powder can be used as both setting powder and touch up powder. Both products are translucent and looking white in the pan. However, NARS Reflecting Powder has a shimmering glow when swatched.  The texture of NARS powder is softer and blends much better on my skin. MAC ‘s texture is fine but it’s not as soft as NARS. When I swatch NARS powder at the counter, I was a little bit worried that my face would look oily as it has a very fine shimmer. But after trying it on my face, I am happy to say that I am satisfied with my purchase. You can see my look below.

I applied Chanel Perfection Lumiere lightly with my fingers. There was nothing on top of it.

On my left cheek, I applied NARS Reflecting Powder on top of the Chanel Foundation. You can see that after applying the powder, my face looks glowy and more fresh. It actually helps to whiten my skintone a bit too, makes my skin looks healthier.

On my right cheek, I applied MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder on top of  the Chanel foundation. I have been wearing this powder for few months now and have no problem in applying it by brush/sponge. This powder works for me as a setting powder & a touch up powder.

Lasting Power:

My skin type is combination skin; I have a normal-dry cheek and an oily T-zone area. Usually during office days, MAC Finishing Powder lasted for 5-6 hours on me and after that I need to touch up my face. After 6 hours my T-zone would be very oily and it’s the time when I re-apply my MAC Finishing Powder.

The Look:

Conclusion/Final Thought:

After comparing both products, I have to say that both products have their advantages. For ladies who wants a more natural looking/matte looking, MAC Finishing Powder would be a better choice. MAC provides a very natural matte finish. Whereas for ladies who wants more glow on the face, NARS would be a good choice.

From price point, although NARS’ price is more expensive, I personally don’t mind paying a more expensive price because I love the glowy finish so much and I love my healthy looking skin. I also love the pouch that NARS provide, it makes the product looks more sleek.

So ladies, what powder do you currently use? Let me know so I can discover more :)

Thank you for reading!
