Must-Have Lip Balms

Lip balm can be key in keeping lips looking soft and gorgeous, and as such it has become something of a beauty-bag staple for many. However, with so many different brands available on the market, how do you choose which balm is best for you? Here are a few of the top contenders which are well worth a try.

First up it’s Smith’s Minted Rose lip balm – a sheer pink balm which will leave your lips thoroughly moisturised and smells good enough to eat! What’s more, this lip balm comes in a gorgeous vintage-style tip – perfect for leaving on your desk to remind you to reapply whilst you’re at work, or settling down to a game of Foxy Bingo of an evening. Smith’s Minted Rose lip balm also offers just a hint of colour, so it’s perfect for those who are keen to keep their make-up subtle.

If you’re looking to invest in a brand that had already stood the test of time, then why not try Carmex? The Carmex Original Jar was first launched back in 1937, and has since gone on to sell over a billion jars worldwide. Not only will this product moisturise dry lips, but it will also slightly numb lips which are already chapped and sore. In more recent years, Carmex have also released a number of flavoured lip balms (including Vanilla, Cherry and Lime Twist) as well as the ‘Moisture Plus’ range which is slightly tinted.

Another extensive lip balm range which has proved to be hugely popular in recent years is that of Burt’s Bees. Using natural ingredients such as beeswax, Burt’s Bees now offer a range of fruity flavours which will keep your lips soft, smooth and hydrated – and you won’t have to break the bank either! Their Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter is proven to moisturise lips for 4 hours after just one application!

Guerlain Rouge G De Guerlain Le Brillant – B61 Brenda

Holla! I am very happy to show you my first ever Guerlain Lipstick! I bought this during Isetan Sale which cost me around $25 (I can’t remember the price clearly). There were not many choices during the sale, I remember that there were only 3-4 Rouge G Guerlain lipstick. Most of them are very dark vampy or purplish which I don’t like. Luckily I found this one which still very wearable. This is Guerlain Rouge G De Guerlain Le Brillant – B61 Brenda.

The name of this lipstick is so long that it makes me difficult to distinguish many range of Guerlain’s lippies. Anyway, Guerlain lipsticks are super gorgeous in terms of packaging. Previously I have mentioned how pretty YSL Rouge Volupte Range is, now I think this one is worth comparing. I still think YSL’s packaging is better because it’s lighter and more elegant. However in terms of elegance, I think Guerlain has better design.

This lipstick is heavy, in fact this is the heaviest lipstick I own. It’s made of metal with small mirror inside. Although the material is great, this material tend to leave some finger print after I apply this lipstick. I must always clean this lipstick after I applied some. It’s pretty difficult to get nice photo of this lipstick because of its metal case; hence you can see my red camera and me with my pyjamas :p .

You can see how “expensive looking” this lipstick is. Only by looking at it, you’ll know how elegant this lipstick is.

The texture of  B61 Brenda is pretty sheer. At first I thought it would look very opaque. I am happy that it turns out pretty natural. B61 Brenda is a coral pink with yellow undertone. This color match my personality very well. I love wearing this lipstick on daily basis; it’s not too bright for office wear yet it still gives the color that I want. This lipstick lasted for about 4 hours with me. I am happy to re apply this lipstick again and again because I am feeling so happy whenever I open this lipstick case and see how beautiful this lipstick is 🙂

Have you tried any Guerlain lipstick? What do you think of them?

Thank you for reading 🙂

NOTD: OPI My Pointe Exactly & Piroutte My Whistle

Hello everyone, a short post to show my nails today. I applied three coats of OPI My Pointe Exactly and then two coats of Piroutte My Whistle. Both are from New York City Ballet Collection

OPI My Pointe Exactly is a chic pastel grey with a sheer finish somehow the picture looks like blue shade and Pirouette My Whistle is a clear base with micro fine silver shimmer and glitter.

Overall, I love the look in my nails but should apply more than three coats! I don’t like when I can see my nail line after applying polish. Apologize for the bad quality pictures, they are all taken using mobile phone 🙂

K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner + EOTD

Look what I have got from Watsons today! It’s the widely talk K-palette Tattoo Eyeliner!

I have heard many good reviews about this palette. I was very curious and quickly went to Watson and grab one.  Many bloggers said this eyeliner can last for the whole day with a minimal smudge. So far, I haven’t had any liquid eyeliner that doesn’t smudge after 5 hours. So it’s time for me to check it 🙂

Until today, i have been using this K-palette  for a week. The result has always been fantastic! Minimal smudge and the color intensity is great. I usually wear my make up at 7.30 am and won’t do any touch-up for the rest of the day. Until I reached home from office around 8pm, I can see that there’s a smudge but  t’s very minimal. The brush is great to create winged eyeliner. It’s real easy to create a winged eyeliner with this eyeliner in just one or two swipe. So far, I am very satisfied with this product. The price is very reasonable, it was less that SGD 24. If you’re looking for a good liquid eyeliner, I would highly recommend this product! 🙂

By the way, here’s my EOTD using K-palette real lasting eyeliner 🙂

and here are the eyeshadow products I’m using in this EOTD:

1. Shu Uemura Make Up Pallete: Eyes and Cheeks; reviewed here

2. Make Up Store High Tech Lighter in Asteriod; Reviewed here

3. Chanel Ombres Tissées Beiges; Reviewed here

What do you think of this product? Lovin it? 🙂

Hope you enjoy this post and have a great day!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hi everyone!

I am bit behind to post my review on the items I bought on my holiday (see my holiday haul!), I had a busy weekend and I’m also busy baking cakes for valentine’s day. Beside beauty-related stuff, I love cooking especially baking! I hope you don’t mind something not beauty-related posted in this blog and I am sure most of you love desserts like me 🙂

I thought red velvet cupcakes is the perfect cake for valentine’s day and who doesn’t love chocolate cake and creamy frosting. This is my first time baking red velvet cupcakes, it’s pretty simple and easy but my icing doesn’t turned out the way I want it.

Recipes adapted from Ina Garten

Red velvet cupcakes

makes 15 cupcakes

2 1/2 cups plain flour

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp kosher salt ( I use 1/2 tsp of table salt)

1 cup buttermilk, shaken

1 tbs liquid red food coloring

1 tsp white vinegar

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

1 stick unsalted butter (around 113 grams) at room temp

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 eggs, at room temp

Preheat the oven to 350 degreess. Line muffin tins with paper liners.

In a small bowl, sift together the dry ingredients. In a large measuring cup, combine the wet ingredients.

Beat the butter and sugar using electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment on medium speed for 1 minute, until light. Add eggs, one at time and beat until combined. With the mixer on low spped, add the dry and wet ingredients in 3 parts and mix until combined. Stir with a rubber spatula to be sure the batter is mixed.

Scoop the batter into the muffin cups and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.  Cool completely and frost with red velvet frosting.

Red velvet frosting

8 ounces cream cheese, ( around 220 grams) at room temp

1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, (170 grams) at room temp

1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

3 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar (I used almost 2 cups of sugar and it taste sweet enough for my taste)

Place the cream cheese, butter and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment, and mix on the medium speed just until combined. Add the sugar and mix until smooth.
