NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

NYX is one drug store brand that I have been wanting to try. The main reason of this is because I watched beauty gurus on youtube too much. One of my favorite beauty gurus; Jen from frmheadtotoe , she often use NYX make up to create a very nice look on her. I am curious of the quality of the quality of NYX. I decide to give a try to it’s Jumbo Pencil Eyeliner. The color that I bought were Black Bean and Iced Mocha.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil is described as a eyeliner that also can be used as an eyeshadow base. A dual function product is always a good steal! However, I found that dual function product usually has some drawbacks in one of their function. So we’ll see if NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil has a better function as an eyeliner or an eyeshadow base 🙂

1. Black Bean

Black Bean is a matte black color. The color is just a plain black. The pigmentation is good and you don’t need to swipe a few times to get a very dark black. The size of this pencil makes it to be very easy to be applied as a eyeshadow base.

Here’s how it looks on my eye:

Although it’s very easy to be applied as an eyeliner; I don’t really recommend this product. It crease very easily. Also, when I tried to smudge it with my finger to get a black eyeshadow base, I find it very hard to blend the color evenly. You can see some uneven color at the right side of the picture. Overall, black bean is a nay for me.

2. Iced Mocha

Iced Mocha is a warm brown color with a hint of shimmer. The pigmentation of this is also good, however you might want to swipe this a few times to get the opacity level that you want.

Here’s the swatch:

In my opinion, Iced Mocha is much better than Black Bean. The pigmentation of this eye pencil is just nice to be used as an eyeshadow base. Also, it’s very easy to be blend. I don’t find any difficulties in blending the color together. I love warm tone on my eyelid. Neutral color  like this is very easy to be mixed and matched with many colors. Again, similar to Black Bean, I won’t recommend this to be used as an eyeliner. It smudges easily especially if you have an oily lid.

In this picture, I blend Iced Mocha and Black Bean together. I love how it looks on my eyelid. Firstly, I applied Iced Mocha blend it all over my eyelid. Again, I applied Iced Mocha on my lower eyelid to have a darker color. Lastly, I applied Black Bean on my lower lid to have an even darker color. I blend it all over until I can see a gradation. I am satisfied with how it looks and moreover, it stays for 5-6 hours without smudge!

My final thought on NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil:

This product is better used as a cream shadow rather than an eye pencil. It stays long as an eyeshadow but smudge easily as an eyeliner. I don’t recommend Black Bean because of the smudging problem and it’s very hard to blend. However, Iced Mocha is worth trying. It blends easily and it creates a nice color.

Shu Uemura Make-Up Palette: Eyes and Cheeks

I found this Shu Uemura palette in Changi airport and tempted to buy. The palette consist of eyeshadow, gel liner (can also be used as a cream shadow) and a blush. The reason I purchased this palette is simply because the colors looks very wearable and there are two gel liners inside this palette. This palette is very suitable for me whenever I’m travelling. I won’t need to bring other blush or eyeliner anymore since all my basic make up need is in one palette.

The quality of the eyeshadow is great. It’s well pigmented and it last long. Moreover, it is very easy to be blend with each other. The blush is not disappointing either. It’s a cute pink-peachy which is very suitable for my skin tone. However, the gel liner in this palette does not satisfy me. The color pigmentation is poor and it tends to smudge. The quality of the gel liner is much worse than Bobby Brown Gel Liner (reviewed HERE). I have not tried using the gel liner as a cream shadow, I hope the result would be more satisfying 😀

From L-R: the 2 gel liner (cream shadows), and the 4 eye shadow color

I don’t have many things to say on this post, but I hope you guys enjoy this post XOXO!

Types of Eyeliner

Hi guys,

Finally we have the time to write this post. This post has been requested by one of our readers few months ago. Sorry for the delay!

Here we go! We are going to write the types of eyeliner that we often use. We will also state the pros and cons of each type pf eyeliner that we use. Please enjoy!

1. Pencil Eyeliner

I would say that pencil eyeliner is the most famous type of eyeliner. When I was in high school and wanted to try to wear eyeliner, pencil was the first choice. The pros of this type of eyeliner is that it’s the easiest to use. It is the type of eyeliner that’s easy to be controlled. Every morning when I’m in a rush, I always use pencil eyeliner to make my eye look bigger. It’s very important to choose a good brand of eyeliner which does not smudge. Smudging eyeliner is so annoying. It would ruin our look! However, the cons to this eyeliner is that it’s quite difficult to create a thin eyeliner using pencil eyeliner. You can still create a thin line with pencil liner, but in my opinion it would not be very thin. Also, most pencil eyeliner that I have used tend to smudge. In my make up experience, I have found a terribly bad pencil eyeliner and a good pencil eyeliner. One of the good pencil eyeliner brand is Dior.

2.  Automatic Pencil Eyeliner

I have only found this automatic pencil eyeliner about 2-3 years ago. It works the same as the pencil eyeliner explained above. The difference between both is this eyeliner does not need to be sharpened. Well, my opinion on this eyeliner might be a bit biased because this is one of my favorite type of eyeliner. The pros on this eyeliner is (again) it’s very easy to use. Secondly, the pigmentation of this eyeliner is better than the ordinary pencil eyeliner. Also, it’s more possible to create a thin eyeliner using this automatic pencil eyeliner rather than the pencil eyeliner. However, the cons of this eyeliner is the same as the ordinary pencil liner. If we couldn’t find a good auto pencil eyeliner, it tends to smudge.

The above auto pencil eyeliner is from Shu Uemura. I just bought this few days ago and not very satisfied with it. The color pigmentation is so poor and it tends to smudge. However, Chanel’s and Dior’s automatic pencil eyeliner never fail to make me happy. It stays all day and doesn’t smudge at all!

3. Gel Eyeliner

Gel eyeliner is one of my holy grail cosmetic! I would say that gel eyeliner stays longest among all types of eyeliners mentioned here. Well it might not be true to everyone but that’s my experience. It’s the most well pigmented type of eyeliner and it stays super long! However, one thing I dislike about this eyeliner is that it tends to dry after few months of usage. But no worries, we can always find a way to solve that problem. We have written an article on that and you can read it HERE

4. Liquid Eyeliner

This liquid eyeliner is from Chanel. One thing I love about this eyeliner is the brush. Chanel has one of the finest liquid eyeliner brush. It’s very easy to apply and it’s the right choice of eyeliner for those of you who wants just a very thin eyeliner. However, this eyeliner tends to smudge after few hours and I really don’t like smudging eyeliner. This used to be my favorite eyeliner but after I found the goodness of gel eyeliner, I don’t really use liquid eyeliner anymore.

5. Pen Eyeliner

I have heard many good reviews on this eyeliner and bought it. After using it for few times, I realize that this eyeliner is just not for me. As much as I would like to love it, I just cant! I don’t know if it’s just me or you guys also feel that this eyeliner is the easiest to smudge. It does not last long. The application is easy, it’s even easier to apply than liquid eyeliner.

I hope this post will help you to pick which eyeliner works best for you. And oh, you might notice that I have taken pictures in different place, I was in Jakarta for few days and now I’m back to Singapore. Some pictures are taken in Jakarta and some pictures are taken in Singapore. Thus, it explain why I have different picture backgrounds 😉

Anyway, I have only tried those eyeliners and if you have tried other type of eyeliners that’s not mentioned above, feel free to leave a comment below and I would love to answer that! 🙂

Have a great Saturday lovely people!
