Here’s one of few make up item that has made my heart skipped a beat when I see real thing by myself. I fall in love with many products but not many products could make my heart jumps faster when I open it for the first time. Tom Ford releases an eye & cheek compact for summer 2014 collection. The palette is called Unabashed.
Firstly let’s talk about the packaging of this product. Unabashed comes in a hefty packaging; with white casing and golden mirrored case inside. Tom Ford products never fails to amaze me with its ultra luxurious packaging; looking at it makes me happy. The size of the palette is larger than most of the make up products I own. It also comes with a velvety pouch.
Unabashed consists of 3 eyeshadow shades, a bronzer/highlighter and a blush.
There are 3 eyeshadows in this palette; 2 of these are matte and the other is glittery.
- The eyeshadow on the top is a champagne shade with silver glitters. On the first touch, it feels kinda dry and powdery. It looks dazzling on the pan. When swatched on my arm, it was quite sheer on the first layer, however when I added another layer, the color pops out better and I can see the glitters obviously.
- The midlde shade on the pan looks like a grey – taupe to me. The texture of the matte shades are to die for. It is very smooth and feels rather creamy to me. It glides on very nicely and pigmentation was great. I like to wear this lightly on my eyelid for my day make up when I want something simple and fast. However I find that this shade is best when mixed with a shimmery eye color base.
- The shade on the bottom is a matte electric blue. I am sure many of us have heard a LOT people are talking about this blue. It has excellent pigmentation, the color pops out true to pan in a swipe. The texture was smooth and there was no fallout during swatch and application. I do find that this blue stains on my skin after a while, therefore I make sure that I have to use a very effective cleansing oil to clear all the stains. I like to use this blue as a liner more.
The palette also comes with a bronzer/highlighter and a blush. The bronzer is a warm bronze with sheen. Since I don’t use bronzer to create a tan look, I am using this as a sculpting powder. Some people suggest that this could be used as a highlighter. For me personally I find that this is too dark to be used as a highlighter. I use this as a sculpting powder. As a sculpting powder, it works fine for my skintone. I don’t find the sheen to be intimidating. In fact, it creates a glow onto my face. For a moment, this bronzer reminds me of Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder .
The blush is a warm pink with a mixture of peachy shade and golden shimmer. In line with Tom Ford blushes, this blush has a great pigmentation. I make sure that I always dab on lightly to make sure that I did not pick too much color on my brush and I can always build up the color whenever I want to.
In the look below, I applied the taupe shade all over my eye lid. After blending it all over, I applied the glittery shade on my inner corner. I applied the blue shade as a liner. I purposely didn’t apply the blue until the end inner corner of my eye. I wanted to emphasize the blue more on the outer corner.
Linda from Silverkis helped me to get this via Saks Fifth Avenue (thanks babe! ). I paid US$95 for this. For the luxurious design, hefty packaging and the amount of product I am getting, I think that USD 95 is worth the kick. Yes I agree that it is expensive, but I guess I will be so disappointed if I let this palette go as this is a Limited Edition product.
