Tom Ford Summer 2014 – Eye & Cheek Compact in Unabashed

Here’s one of few make up item that has made my heart skipped a beat when I see real thing by myself. I fall in love with many products but not many products could make my heart jumps faster when I open it for the first time. Tom Ford releases an eye & cheek compact for summer 2014 collection. The palette is called Unabashed.

IMG_9426.jpg

Firstly let’s talk about the packaging of this product. Unabashed comes in a hefty packaging; with white casing and golden mirrored case inside. Tom Ford products never fails to amaze me with its ultra luxurious packaging; looking at it makes me happy. The size of the palette is larger than most of the make up products I own. It also comes with a velvety pouch.

Unabashed consists of 3 eyeshadow shades, a bronzer/highlighter and a blush.

There are 3 eyeshadows in this palette; 2 of these are matte and the other is glittery.

  • The eyeshadow on the top is a champagne shade with silver glitters. On the first touch, it feels kinda dry and powdery. It looks dazzling on the pan. When swatched on my arm,  it was quite sheer on the first layer, however when I added another layer, the color pops out better and I can see the glitters obviously.
  • The midlde shade on the pan looks like a grey – taupe to me. The texture of the matte shades are to die for. It is very smooth and feels rather creamy to me. It glides on very nicely and pigmentation was great. I like to wear this lightly on my eyelid for my day make up when I want something simple and fast. However I find that this shade is best when mixed with a shimmery eye color base.
  • The shade on the bottom is a matte electric blue. I am sure many of us have heard a LOT people are talking about this blue. It has excellent pigmentation, the color pops out true to pan in a swipe. The texture was smooth and there was no fallout during swatch and application. I do find that this blue stains on my skin after a while, therefore I make sure that I have to use a very effective cleansing oil to clear all the stains. I like to use this blue as a liner more.

The palette also comes with a bronzer/highlighter and a blush. The bronzer is a warm bronze with sheen. Since I don’t use bronzer to create a tan look, I am using this as a sculpting powder. Some people suggest that this could be used as a highlighter. For me personally I find that this is too dark to be used as a highlighter. I use this as a sculpting powder. As a sculpting powder, it works fine for my skintone. I don’t find the sheen to be intimidating. In fact, it creates a glow onto my face. For a moment, this bronzer reminds me of Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder .

The blush is a warm pink with a mixture of peachy shade and golden shimmer. In line with Tom Ford blushes, this blush has a great pigmentation. I make sure that I always dab on lightly to make sure that I did not pick too much color on my brush and I can always build up the color whenever I want to.

In the look below, I applied the taupe shade all over my eye lid. After blending it all over, I applied the glittery shade on my inner corner. I applied the blue shade as a liner. I purposely didn’t apply the blue until the end inner corner of my eye. I wanted to emphasize the blue more on the outer corner.

Linda from Silverkis helped me to get this via Saks Fifth Avenue (thanks babe! :) ). I paid US$95 for this. For the luxurious design, hefty packaging and the amount of product I am getting, I think that USD 95 is worth the kick. Yes I agree that it is expensive, but I guess I will be so disappointed if I let this palette go as this is a Limited Edition product.

Chanel Holiday 2013 – Blush in Accent Swatches & Comparison

IMG_9044

Hello everyone :)

Many of you may have seen the review of Chanel Blush in Accent from the Holiday 2013 collection Infinie de Nuit. This blush is a limited edition. I just got mine recently. The one I got here was ordered from Nordstorm and thanks to Jacqueline from My Beauty Hoard  for helping me to get this :)

IMG_9031

This Christmas, Chanel releases a unique blush shade. Accent is a beige – dusty rose with a slight shimmer. It’s my first Chanel blush with a dusty rose kind of shade. The shimmer might look a little bit intimidating but upon application, it is almost invisible.

I am very glad that I am able to get Chanel Joues Contraste in US Pressed Version. I can feel the difference in the texture, it is smoother and the pigmentation is better. What I love most about Chanel blushes is that they have such a fine shimmer that adds a very nice glow to your face. The shimmer is refined that it doesn’t look too much at all.

I pulled some of my blushes which I think could be similar. They are Burberry Tangerine, Tarte Exposed and Burberry Earthy.

As you can see, these four shades are different. Chanel Accent leans more towards rosy beige and it has more shimmer as compared to the rest.

This will conclude my Chanel Holiday 2013 picks. I have reviewed some other products from this collection:

What do you think of this collection? Would you pick anything from this collection?

My First Post of “What is in My Current Make Up Bag?” – November Edition

image (2)

Hello everyone!

It’s my first “What is in My Current Make Up Bag?” post ever. I am so excited to write this post as these products are the ones I use regularly for my touch ups. I hope I would be able to post this regularly once every 2 months or so. So here are the products I currently have on my make up bag:

  • NARS Fairy’s Kiss Palette: This is the palette that I currently have on my make up bag. It has 6 versatile shades to be used for my day/night look. I did a review of this palette on my previous post. You may read the review HERE
  • Chanel Compact Mirror which I received from a friend. I am really glad that she gave me this mirror, I love how beautiful the red color is.
  • Urban Decay Naked FLUSHED palette: This is a genius palette which I love a lot. It is a complete three in one palette consisting of bronzer, blush and highlighter. The shade can be used nicely on people with either dark or light skin tone. I have done a detailed review HERE
  • YSL Touche Eclat: This is a must have product on my make up pouch. I use this product to highlight my browbone and as a corrector. Believe it or not, I have never changed this product from my make up bag for more than a year as I find this product is very useful as a touch up tool.
  • Rimmel Stay Matte powder: This is a relatively new product that I tried recently. So far this powder has works pretty well on me. It helps to control the oil in my T-zone area. I must admit that this powder is not the best powder I’ve tried but considering the price I paid, I am happy to repurchase this again.
  • Maybelline Rocket Mascara: This mascara is my current favorite mascara. It helps to lengthen my eyelash and at the same time it makes my lashes looks thicker. I have a short and rather droopy mascara and there are only few mascara that works for me. Maybelline Rocket mascara stays for the whole day for me without smudging. Moreover, cleaning this mascara is so easy! Warm water is all you need to clean all the mascara on the lashes.
  • Chanel Retractable Kabuki Brush: I love the softness of this brush. The hair are dense and this brush can be used as a blush brush, bronzer brush and even powder brush. It’s a perfect brush to be kept in my make up pouch. I have reviewed the product previously, you may read it HERE
  • YSL Glossy Stain in 101 Reckless Pink: What I love about YSL Glossy stain is the texture. The shade stays on for a long time (4-5 hours at least) and the I love the shine this lipstain has. I specially love shade “reckless pink” as it looks natural on my lip but the shine it has adds something more to my look. I have reviewed & swatched YSL Glossy Stain Rebel Nudes on one of my blogpost HERE
  • Chanel Rouge Allure in 88 Evanescente: This is a natural pinkish nude lipstick. I always rotate my nude lipstick shade every two weeks or every month. This is to make sure that all my nude lipsticks are well loved :p
  • Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner: hands down! This has got to be my all time fave liquid eyeliner. It has never fail to stay on my lid for the whole day without smudging. The brush size is nicely designed; it’s not too long and not too pointy, the size is just nice to apply line along my lash line. This eyeliner retails at SGD 20-25 (I can’t remember the exact price) at major drugstore in Singapore.
  • Last but not least, is a Chloe perfume miniature. This is one of my fave perfume and it’s always a pleasure to add a bit of smell after a long day at work.

Wah I just realized that I have quite a lot of things on my make up pouch ;) Some of my friends have commented that I have so many things on my make up bag; however I enjoy bringing these make up on my bag. It’s a pleasure to do a touch up during lunch break or after work before dinner.

I’ll try to rotate the products in my make up bag and I hope that I’ll be able to write on this topic on a regular basis :)

Share with me on what you have on your make up bag, please :)

Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder – Tropical Days Swatch & Review

IMG_5315

Hello!

Today I am featuring a product from Kevyn Aucoin. This is my very first product from the brand. I have heard that Kevyn Aucoin make up lines are really worth trying. I am so lucky that I have a friend who lives in UK help me to buy this product. To @happyananthi on instagram, thank you for helping me to get this product.

Packaging:

Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder is packaged in a simple design. It’s packaged in a red acrylic casing with “Kevyn Aucoin” printed on it. No brush or pouch were given.

IMG_5319

Texture & Shades:

This bronzer has a unique texture. This is definitely not creamy but it’s not the powdery type too. I must say that this celestial bronzing veil has quite a dry texture but it’s still nice and soft. On the pan, it looks like this bronzing veil is packed with loads of shimmer. But you need to swatch it to judge the shade. I personally dislike bronzer with shimmers too but Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder has a very refined shimmer that does not look obvious when applied. As you can see in the pan, The shade in Tropical Days  is not too dark. The shade on the top of the pan is lighter and gradually it becomes darker on the bottom.

Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder gives a subtle glow to my skin when applied. It helps to contour my cheekbone very well. I usually use the shade below; it is simply because it has darker shade compared to the top part. The shade melts into my skin very nicely after blending. I can see a very slight shimmer on my cheek but it doesn’t look frosty. This products lasts perfectly for 4 hours on me (I am mostly staying indoors) and it starts to fade after that. The lasting power is not the best but it’s not that bad too.

IMG_5321

IMG_5323

In the swatches above, you can see that the lighter shade can also be used as a highlighter while the darker shade can be used as a bronzer. The lighter shade has heavier amount of highlighter compared to the darker shade. So don’t worry that your face will look shimmery when you’re applying the darker shade as your contouring powder.

Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons in 3 Naturel – Brunettes

IMG_5117

This summer, Guerlain release a new range of Guerlain Terracotta 4 seasons bronzers in 4 new shades. I believe most people is astounded with the beauty of 00 Nude. However it’s a pity that I couldn’t find this shade in Changi Aiport while I was travelling so I went with 03 Naturel instead.

The Packaging:

Guerlain 4 seasons bronzer comes with a sleek brown velvety pouch. The packaging comes in a heavy metal & glass casing in dark brown. There’s a large G logo printed in the front of the glass casing. I just love the look of this luxurious bronzer.

IMG_5115

IMG_5116

The Shade & Texture:

What I love about this bronzer is that every bronzer shade comes with 4 shades inside; two darker shades and two lighter shades. It gives me a choice to go for a heavier contouring or just a light one. The shade 03 Naturel Brunettes is darker compared to 00 nude and 02 Naturel Blondes, but it shows up on me nicely.

This bronzer has a nice refreshing scent too. It has a different scent compared to Guerlain Emillio Pucci Terra Azzura and Burberry Blushes. The scent is somewhat citrus-y and now powdery.

Onto the texture, I think Guerlain never fails to impress me especially on their bronzer texture. The texture is really finely milled, soft and nice to touch. The pigmentation of this bronzer is just nice; not way too pigmented so that it wouldn’t be too much when applied. The shade doesn’t really shows when you swatch it on your arm, but upon application on your face, you’ll see the shade pops nicely without being too much.

Swatches:

The swatches in these pictures were taken on indirect and direct sunlight. I applied 2-3 times for each color to show up. However when it’s applied on my face, I swiped once or twice in order to have the color shows.

Final Thought:

Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons in 3 Naturel – Brunettes is currently my new favorite bronzer. The texture, shade and packaging impress me and I have no complains about this product at all. It’s a must have if you have never tried Guerlain bronzers before :)

Have you tried Guerlain Terracotta bronzer? What’s your fave bronzer?
