Tom Ford Summer 2014 – Eye & Cheek Compact in Unabashed

Here’s one of few make up item that has made my heart skipped a beat when I see real thing by myself. I fall in love with many products but not many products could make my heart jumps faster when I open it for the first time. Tom Ford releases an eye & cheek compact for summer 2014 collection. The palette is called Unabashed.

IMG_9426.jpg

Firstly let’s talk about the packaging of this product. Unabashed comes in a hefty packaging; with white casing and golden mirrored case inside. Tom Ford products never fails to amaze me with its ultra luxurious packaging; looking at it makes me happy. The size of the palette is larger than most of the make up products I own. It also comes with a velvety pouch.

IMG_9433.jpg

IMG_9427.jpg

Unabashed consists of 3 eyeshadow shades, a bronzer/highlighter and a blush.

There are 3 eyeshadows in this palette; 2 of these are matte and the other is glittery.

  • The eyeshadow on the top is a champagne shade with silver glitters. On the first touch, it feels kinda dry and powdery. It looks dazzling on the pan. When swatched on my arm,  it was quite sheer on the first layer, however when I added another layer, the color pops out better and I can see the glitters obviously.
  • The midlde shade on the pan looks like a grey – taupe to me. The texture of the matte shades are to die for. It is very smooth and feels rather creamy to me. It glides on very nicely and pigmentation was great. I like to wear this lightly on my eyelid for my day make up when I want something simple and fast. However I find that this shade is best when mixed with a shimmery eye color base.
  • The shade on the bottom is a matte electric blue. I am sure many of us have heard a LOT people are talking about this blue. It has excellent pigmentation, the color pops out true to pan in a swipe. The texture was smooth and there was no fallout during swatch and application. I do find that this blue stains on my skin after a while, therefore I make sure that I have to use a very effective cleansing oil to clear all the stains. I like to use this blue as a liner more.

The palette also comes with a bronzer/highlighter and a blush. The bronzer is a warm bronze with sheen. Since I don’t use bronzer to create a tan look, I am using this as a sculpting powder. Some people suggest that this could be used as a highlighter. For me personally I find that this is too dark to be used as a highlighter. I use this as a sculpting powder. As a sculpting powder, it works fine for my skintone. I don’t find the sheen to be intimidating. In fact, it creates a glow onto my face. For a moment, this bronzer reminds me of Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Bronzing Powder .

The blush is a warm pink with a mixture of peachy shade and golden shimmer. In line with Tom Ford blushes, this blush has a great pigmentation. I make sure that I always dab on lightly to make sure that I did not pick too much color on my brush and I can always build up the color whenever I want to.

IMG_9432.jpg

In the look below, I applied the taupe shade all over my eye lid. After blending it all over, I applied the glittery shade on my inner corner. I applied the blue shade as a liner. I purposely didn’t apply the blue until the end inner corner of my eye. I wanted to emphasize the blue more on the outer corner.

Linda from Silverkis helped me to get this via Saks Fifth Avenue (thanks babe! :) ). I paid US$95 for this. For the luxurious design, hefty packaging and the amount of product I am getting, I think that USD 95 is worth the kick. Yes I agree that it is expensive, but I guess I will be so disappointed if I let this palette go as this is a Limited Edition product.

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette Swatches: The Rebel

IMG_9315.jpg

IMG_9315.jpg

Today I bring you my first Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow quad; I picked up The Rebel as the shades looks rather unusual to me. The shades in this palette are calling my name as lately I have been drawn to green shades – particularly deep greens. The hype over this brand has been around since last year – people are putting such a high expectation on this brand particularly because of the woman behind this brand. Now let’s get onto the review..

Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow quad consists of 4 shades:

  • Prime: a Champagne shade with very fine micro shimmers. I find this shade to be frosty.
  • Enhance: a green shade with a touch of gold sheen
  • Smoke: a satiny blue teal
  • Pop: a deep olive green with gold shimmer

IMG_9324.jpg

Swatches: Prime – Enhance – Pop – Smoke

IMG_9325.jpg

From these 4 shades; I’d have to say that I least like the prime shade. It’s too frosty to be used as a prime shade for my liking. The other three shades are fine for me. I particularly love the smoke shade (teal blue) and the pop shade (olive green). I love the olive shade which is packed with golden glitters.

The pigmentation of the colors varies between the shades here. The enhance shade is less pigmented compared to the pop and the smoke shade. The pop shade has the best pigmentation among the four and it glides on very smoothly without any fallout. The pop shade is the softest among the four. When I swatch the pop color on the back of my hand, I can barely see any fallout because everything glides on perfectly. However when I apply it on my lid, I can see slight fallout of the golden glitters.

Not long ago, I also purchased Burberry Eyeshadow Palette in Sage Green (reviewed here), and I did a comparison of the colors swatch as shown in the picture below. Comparing these two, I love The Rebel better – mainly because of its pigmentation and the range of colors that looks bolder.

In this post, I have 7 shades to be swatched on the back of my hand  and I picked 4 shades to be swatched on my lip below.

IMG_9359.jpg

YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush is pigmented and true to color when swatched on the back of my hand; however when it is applied on my lip, it got quite hard to control due to the thickness of the applicator. It shows up quite sheer for the first layer, and to get the opaque color on my lip, I applied another layer. I  would recommend using a lip brush to get a more even pigmentation and neater application especially for bolder color. While on my cheek, I like to dab in three dots on my cheek and blend it out (shown on the picture below – taken from YSL press information). I have tried blending the product with my fingers and brush; I like to spread the color with my finger first and then blending it out with brush. I am using Tom Ford Cream Foundation brush (02) or Koyudo fupa02 brush for to blend the color.

Screen Shot 2014-04-05 at 11.02.43 am.jpg

What I like about the texture of this lip & blush is that is doesn’t makes my lip feel dry. I have tried some other product which can be used for both lip and cheek which is very drying, but this is not the case for YSL Baby Doll. It feels fine on my lip – not fully moisturising but definitely not drying.

The finish of YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush looks velvety to me; they are not fully matte nor glossy to me. The swatches on my lip in the pictures below are  my favorite  shades from this range so far. I am not really into bold lip color usually but #5 Rouge Effrontee has got into my favorite shades list from this range.

On the lasting power, I find that it varies among the colors. Some shade stays longer on my lip & cheek while other fades more quickly. YSL baby doll left a stain on my lip and cheek – On the cheek, the shade fades after 4-5 hours, but the stain looks more obvious on my lip and the stain stays on my lip for a longer time. On my lip, the stain lasts for more than 5 hours.
